Terps Travel to #4 Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team faces its seventh consecutive ranked opponent when the Terps travel to No. 4 Penn State Saturday.

• The Terps (13-18, 3-14 B1G) and Nittany Lions (24-4, 13-4) tangle at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. The match will be live streamed on BTN Plus.

• Freshman outside hitter Liz Twilley led the Terps with 12 kills as Maryland fell to No. 3 Minnesota in three sets.

• Freshman libero Kelsey Wicinski led the match with 13 digs while junior setter Whitney Craigo had 32 assists.

Scouting the penn state nittany lions

• The No. 4 Nittany Lions were upset by Michigan in four sets Wednesday. Three Nittany Lions reached double-digit kills but the Wolverines picked up their first-ever win in Rec Hall.

• Penn State leads the Big Ten with a .292 hitting percentage while holding opponents to a conference-best .152 clip. The Nittany Lions also lead the Big Ten with 3.16 blocks per set, which also ranks third nationally.

• Middle blocker Haleigh Washington leads the conference and is third nationally with a .445 hitting percentage and is second in the Big Ten with 1.41 blocks per set. Bryanna Weiskircher leads the conference with 0.34 service aces per set. Megan Courtney and Aiyana Whitney lead the Nittany Lion offense with 3.10 and 3.08 kills per set, respectively.

• The Terps took a set off then-No. 1 Penn State in College Park on Nov. 5 as the Nittany Lions won in four sets.

• The Terps have proven one of the best in the Big Ten in serving, posting 1.38 service aces per set. Maryland has 154 total service aces on the season, 12 more than the next team.

• Senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott ranks 10th in the conference with 0.26 service aces on the season. All but two of Elliott's service aces have come in conference play, and she is averaging a Big Ten-best 0.45 aces per set in 16 conference matches.

• Four Terps are averaging at least 0.20 service aces per set: Elliott (0.26), Kelsey Wicinski (0.24), Abigail Bentz (0.22) and Amy Dion (0.21).

terps to honor seniors wednesday

• Maryland hosts Senior Day in the Terps' final home match of the season next Wednesday vs. Iowa.

• The Terps will honor seniors Dani Bozzini, Amy Dion, Adreené Elliott, Emily Fraik and Kelsey Hrebenach prior to opening serve.

elliott, dion reach career milestones

• Senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott posted her 1,000 career kill against Morgan State in the Terps' season opener vs. Morgan State. Elliott ranks sixth all-time in Maryland history with 1,255 career kills.

• Senior DS/libero Amy Dion reached the 1,000 digs mark at Oklahoma. Dion currently ranks eighth all-time in the Maryland record books with 1,093 digs.

terps set xfinity center pavilion attendance record

• Maryland set a new XFINITY Center Pavilion attendance record with 1,752 fans as the Terps fell to No. 9 Illinois last Friday.

• The previous attendance record was set on Sept. 16, 2006. The new attendance record ranks fourth in Maryland history.

• Since Steve Aird became head coach prior to the 2014 season, the Terps have set five of the top-10 attendance records in program history.

• With a win over Rutgers, Maryland reached 11 wins on the season, passing last season's 10 wins.

• Maryland began the 2015 season with nine straight wins, marking the team's best start to a season since 2005.

• The Terps opened the season with three straight-set wins for the first time since 1997.
