COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After starting the season 3-0, the Maryland men's basketball team moved to No. 2 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, released Monday afternoon.
This is the highest spot for the Terrapins in the poll since being ranked No. 2 on March 4, 2002. The latest ranking is also the highest of Mark Turgeon's coaching career. Maryland began the season ranked third in the AP poll.
The Terps kicked off the season with a trio of wins in front of sellout crowds at the XFINITY Center, including a 75-71 win over local foe Georgetown last Tuesday. Sophomore guard Melo Trimble leads Maryland with 16.3 points per game while senior forward Jake Layman is averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Terps compete in the Cancun Challenge this week, beginning with a game against Illinois State (2-2) on Tuesday. The contest will be televised on CBS Sports at 8:30 p.m. ET.
