Men's Soccer Maryland Athletics

Thanks #TerpNation! A Note from Mael Corboz

To all Maryland Terrapin supporters,

I remember October 9, 2012 like it was yesterday. I was an 18 year old freshman coming to play at Ludwig Field for the first time in my life. As a visitor. Playing that cold Tuesday night under the lights and hearing the incredible support for the Terps and the incessant banter toward my team at the time made me understand the significance of community at this university. Although I lost, I left Maryland that night with a new found respect for this school. At the time, I had no idea that I would have the opportunity to experience that environment another 28 times before my college career ended.

Much like October 9, 2012 is a date engraved in my head, November 22, 2015 will not be forgotten. Sunday against Virginia was more likely than not my last time playing at Ludwig in a competitive game regardless of our result on Sunday in South Bend. As a result, I think it's a fitting time to express my deep thankfulness for the entire Maryland soccer community who made my two seasons at Ludwig Field more exhilarating than I could have possibly dreamt of when I decided to transfer here in January 2014. I want to say thank you to all those supporters who are always present, regardless of whether we have just won a thriller or lost a heartbreaker. To families who come as casual supporters. To the incredible donors who make us, as players, the luckiest student athletes in the nation. To the Crew who enjoyed a few jokes against me in 2012 but welcomed me with open arms from the minute I stepped on campus. There is no doubt that the Crew is the most passionate and loyal group of supporters I will ever encounter.

It's no coincidence that the best program in college soccer has the best fan base. Players come and go every four years, sometimes less, sometimes more, but the true heart and soul of Maryland soccer and a huge reason for all of its success is the community of supporters that serve as a foundation for our soccer program.

This is not a good bye note. For several reasons. First of all, our season is not over. Far from it. But also because I know that whenever my time here comes to an end as a player, whether that's Sunday at Notre Dame or December 13 in Kansas City, my time as a Terp will never end. And I owe that all to you. Thank you.
