#4 Terps Begin B1G Slate vs. Penn State Wednesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 4 Maryland men's basketball team kicks off Big Ten action on Wednesday when it welcomes Penn State to XFINITY Center at 5 p.m.

Robert Carter scored 19 points, Diamond Stone tied his career high with 16 and No. 4 Maryland pulled away for an 87-67 victory over Marshall on Sunday. Melo Trimble added 13 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds for the Terrapins (11-1), who hit a season-high 13 3-pointers to win their fifth straight game. Rasheed Sulaimon added 14 points for Maryland.

• Maryland is second in the Big Ten and third nationally in field goal percentage, shooting at a .533 clip for the 2015-16 season. The Terps have shot 50 percent or better from the floor in nine of 12 games and in eight of their last nine outings. Maryland is also second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.411). Robert Carter and Diamond Stone are ranked sixth and 12th, respectively, in the league with a .596 and .567 field goal percentage.

Melo Trimble was named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year. Trimble leads Maryland in points per game (14.8), assists (70), steals (18) and free throw percentage (.850). He scored 20 points in a 76-73 win over Penn State on Feb. 14, 2015 in the last outing between the two programs.

• Maryland is the only team in the Big Ten to have five players averaging 10 or more points per game. Melo Trimble (14.8), Robert Carter (13.0), Diamond Stone (11.2), Jake Layman (11.0), and Rasheed Sulaimon (10.8) are all averaging double-figure scoring this season.

• Head coach Mark Turgeon is 3-1 in conference openers at Maryland and 4-0 in home conference openers.

• Penn State (9-4) defeated Kent State, 75-69, its last time out on Dec. 23. The Nittany Lions have won four of their last five contests.

• Three Nittany Lions are averaging in double-figures in scoring including Brandon Taylor (16.2 ppg), Shep Garner (14.7) and Payton Banks (11.7) with Garner also leading in assists (2.7) and steals (1.5), and Taylor leading PSU in rebounds (6.2).

• Maryland leads the all-time series against Penn State, 11-8, including a pair of wins a year ago in the team's first season in the Big Ten Conference.
