LOUISVILLE, KY. – After a successful inaugural season in the Big Ten, Maryland Softball's Erin Pronobis and Corey Schwartz were named to the NFCA All-Midwest Region third team the organization announced Thursday.
Pronobis lead the Terps from the plate, hitting .373 with a .671 slugging percentage and .498 on-base percentage. The Waldorf, Md. native contributed 44 RBI and a team-leading 12 home runs in 54 games. A staple in left field, the senior provided defensive prowess at the position all season. Earlier in conference play, Pronobis smacked three home runs in an 8-11 falter to Indiana and blasted two grand slams in the series against Iowa. Pronobis was also named to the All-Big Ten second team by the conference office two weeks ago.
Schwartz provided power and consistency throughout the season, hitting .320 with a .641 slugging percentage and .407 on-base percentage. The Toms River, N.J. native drove in a team-leading 45 runs and 12 home runs, while contributing 11 extra-base hits. The second-baseman played in all 54 games this season, and boasted a .953 fielding percentage. In the Big Ten home opener, Schwartz knocked in a two-run walk-off home run to beat Ohio State, 11-10.
The honors mark the Terrapins' first regional awards since Lindsey Schmeiser was named to the NFCA All-Region second team in 2013.
Maryland finished the 2015 campaign at an even 27-27, a 16-game improvement from 2014.
