COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson has announced an increase in unrestricted giving for fiscal year 2015, which ended June 30. Through the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund and other unrestricted gifts, Maryland Athletics raised over $10.1M in annual giving to support scholarships for varsity students. Last year, that figure was just over $8.3M. This increase included significant growth in the donor base with 8,695 total scholarships contributors compared to just 7,293 the previous academic year prior – a 19% increase.
“Our donors to the University of Maryland continue to make a difference for our students,” said Anderson. “As we are experiencing an unprecedented time in our institution's history, we must continue our progressive goal towards fully funding student scholarships on an annual basis, which is currently over $12M. Thank you to our volunteers through the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund that are helping us tell our story better. That story revolves around TCSF gifts being an investment with impact and that is a compelling message.”
