PORTLAND, Maine - Former Maryland basketball player Nik Caner-Medley will host a free basketball event at the Fox Street Basketball courts on Saturday, August 8 in Portland, Maine.
The event will run from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. The T.R.U. Organization (Together Reaching Unity) is the sponsor of the event. The group's mission is to unite communities by bringing together organizations, businesses and volunteers invested in enriching young people's lives through sports.
Caner-Medley played in College Park from 2002-2006, appearing in 126 games and starting 113. He averaged 12.3 ppg and 5.2 rpg for his career.

ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTION
Warm-up Routine- Fitness experts have prepared a cardio warm up routine, in order to prepare players bodies and prevent injuries throughout the SUMMERSLAM event
Skills Session- Experienced college and high school coaches concentrate on each player's overall skill development. The session is broken into multiple stations in order to maximize player-coach interactions.
Prize Contests- In teams and as individuals every player has the chance to put their skills on display competing for prizes donated from local businesses
Team Games- Teams divided into appropriate skill and age levels give the players a chance to showcase their ability in game officiated action, in front of friends and fans.
Lunch Lecture Series-After the participants work through the skills session, we provide all kids with FREE fresh and healthy meal options. Hannaford and Subway have partnered together to provide a free healthy meal for the participants. After Lunch is distributed the kids will be eating, we have guest speakers who teaches the benefits of proper exercise and eating habits as the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle.
All-Star Showcase- A group of college and professional basketball players come together to put on display their All-Star talents for the kids. The events include a 3pt contest, Dunk contest and an All-Star game the game will be accompanied by an announcer and music.
