INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 5 seed Maryland men's basketball team embarks on its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history when it travels to Spokane, Wash., for first and second round action beginning Friday.

• Maryland is making its 26th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and 20th postseason appearance in the last 23 years. The Terps have advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen seven times in the last 21 years, including consecutive trips to the NCAA Final Four in 2001 and 2002. The Terps captured the NCAA National Championship in 2002. Maryland is 39-24 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 11 consecutive appearances from 1994 – 2004. The Terps have won at least one game in 11 straight NCAA appearances dating back to 1998 - the second longest streak in the nation.
• Maryland is the only team in the Big Ten with five players averaging scoring numbers in double digits. Melo Trimble (14.4), Diamond Stone (12.9), Robert Carter (12.8), Jake Layman (11.2) and Rasheed Sulaimon (11.1) are all averaging double-figure scoring this season. Carter is only 10 points away from the 1,000-career mark. Layman (1,391), Sulaimon (1,268) and Trimble (1,042) have each reached the milestone. Layman ranks in the top 20 of Maryland's all-time career scoring list and is tied for second in all-time in games played (138).
• Maryland is 5-1 in neutral site games this season with wins over Illinois State (11/24) and Rhode Island (11/25) in the Cancun Challenge, UConn in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden, Princeton in Baltimore and vs. Nebraska in the B1G Tourney. Trimble is averaging 15.2 points and 5.7 assists per game as the Terps are averaging 79.8 points per outing in neutral site contests. Sulaimon (.571) and Layman (.524) are both shooting over .500 from beyond the arc on neutral floor.
• Maryland has won 24 regular season games on five occasions in program history, including the past two seasons under head coach Mark Turgeon (26 regular season games in 2014-15 and 24 regular season games in 2015-16). Turgeon is 6-6 overall in seven appearances with three schools in the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen with Wichita State in 2005-06.
• Maryland went 1-1 in the Big Ten Tournament last weekend in Indianapolis, setting a tourney scoring record in a 97-86 win over Nebraska before falling to eventual champion Michigan State, 64-61.
