• Maryland is making its 26th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and 20th postseason appearance in the last 23 years. The Terps have advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen seven times in the last 21 years, including consecutive trips to the NCAA Final Four in 2001 and 2002. The Terps captured the NCAA National Championship in 2002. Maryland is 40-24 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 11 consecutive appearances from 1994 – 2004.
• With their win over South Dakota State on Friday, the Terps have won at least one game in 12 straight NCAA appearances dating back to 1998 - the second longest streak in the nation. Jake Layman matched a career-high with 27 points and tied a Maryland NCAA tournament record for three-point field goals in a game with five. He now ranks second at Maryland all-time in career games played (139) behind Juan Dixon (141).
• Layman is averaging 20.7 points per game over the last three games and is 12-for-21 from beyond the arc. Melo Trimble is averaging 15.3 points per game over that span, including a perfect 15-for-15 mark from the charity stripe. Maryland is 22-3 over the past two seasons when Trimble (9-for-9) gets to the line seven times. Layman went 8-for-8 from the free throw line and the duo is now two of just six players to be perfect from the charity stripe in seven or more attempts in a single game in Maryland NCAA Tournament history, joining the likes of Byron Mouton, Juan Dixon, Len Bias and John Lucas.
• Maryland is the only team in the Big Ten with five players averaging scoring numbers in double digits. Melo Trimble (14.5), Diamond Stone (12.6), Robert Carter (12.6), Jake Layman (11.7) and Rasheed Sulaimon (11.0) are all averaging double-figure scoring this season. Carter is only three points away from the 1,000-career mark. Layman (1,418), Sulaimon (1,275) and Trimble (1,061) have each reached the milestone. Layman is 18th in scoring and 20th in rebounding in Maryland annals.
• Maryland is 2-0 against Hawaii all-time, with wins on Dec. 27, 1984 (79-71) and Dec. 28, 1996 (76-59) in the Rainbow Classic.
