Terps Take Part in White House Egg Roll

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Several Maryland student athletes from an array of teams joined over 35,000 at the South Lawn on Monday for 138th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. The yearly tradition since 1878 was the final egg roll for the Obama family, and draws crowds from the across the nation each spring.

This year's theme was “Let's Celebrate” and featured the first-ever “fun run” in conjunction with Michelle Obama's “Let's Move” initiative. The 15 Terrapin athlete volunteers in sponsored sports stations for children throughout the afternoon, including speed sticks, hurdles, football dummies and agility ladders.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for our student athletes at one of the most famed White House traditions,” said Sr. Associate AD for Academics and Student Development Sue Sherburne. “It was a fun day for them to do something a little outside of their normal routine, and it's always great to see Maryland represented in the community.”
