storylines

• The Terps placed five players on the All-Big Ten Conference list, announced on Monday evening. Melo Trimble was named to the second team, Diamond Stone earned third team honors and Robert Carter, Jake Layman and Rasheed Sulaimon all garnered honorable mention accolades. Stone was also tabbed to the All-Freshman Team and named Associated Press Big Ten Newcomer of the Year. Trimble was tagged to the national ballot for the Wooden Award on March 5.

• The Terps - ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press poll - have been ranked in the AP Top 25 for 34 straight weeks and the USA Today Top 25 for 35. The Terps are 13-1 following a loss over the past two seasons. A second-seeded Maryland went 1-1 in its inaugural trip to the Big Ten Tournament a year ago, defeating Indiana, 75-69, before falling to Michigan State, 62-58, in Chicago.

• Maryland is a perfect 4-0 in neutral site games this season with wins over Illinois State (11/24) and Rhode Island (11/25) in the Cancun Challenge and victories over UConn in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden and Princeton in Baltimore. Trimble is averaging 16 points and six assists per game as the Terps are averaging 80.2 points per outing in neutral site contests.

Melo Trimble scored his 1,000th career point at Indiana his last time out. He is one of three starters in head coach Mark Turgeon's lineup to record 1,000 points in their career, joining Jake Layman (1,356) and Rasheed Sulaimon (1,249). Robert Carter boasts 959 career points heading into the Big Ten Tournament. Maryland is the only team in the B1G to have five players average double-figure scoring.

• Maryland has won 24 regular season games on five occasions in program history, including the past two seasons under head coach Mark Turgeon (26 regular season games in 2014-15 and 24 regular season games in 2015-16).

Jake Layman (3/7) and Rasheed Sulaimon (3/9) both celebrated their 22nd birthdays this week.

Big Ten Notes

• Six different programs have won the Big Ten Tournament. Ohio State and Michigan State have each claimed four official titles. Defending tournament champion Wisconsin has won the event three times, Illinois and Iowa have won two titles, and Purdue has
won the tournament once.

• History has indicated that any team, regardless of seed, can advance to the tournament championship game. The Big Ten title game has featured teams seeded as high as first, second and third and as low as eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th. Ten different schools have
advanced to the tournament's championship game. The Nos. 1 and 2 seeds have met only three times in the tournament's championship game (2004, 2006, 2007).

• A second-seeded Maryland went 1-1 in its inaugural trip to the Big Ten Tournament a year ago. The Terps defeated Indiana, 75-69, before falling to Michigan State, 62-58, in Chicago.
