Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Sarah Calta picked up two hits to extend her hitting streak to six, and push her Big Ten batting average to .688 in a 14-2 loss to Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.
A Kiki Stokes leadoff home run gave Nebraska an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Maryland looked to respond after Calta led off with a single through the left side and advanced to third by way of a Husker error and sacrifice bunt. However, Nebraska turned a 3-4-3-2 double play to keep Calta off the board.
Cassie McClure popped a two out two RBI double in the third to push the Husker lead to 4-0.
The Terrapins cut the deficit in half in the bottom half. Corey Schwartz reached on an error, Kylie Datil coasted a double to right field, and Sarah Calta skied a RBI single. Skylynne Ellazar promptly followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the score to 4-2.
After scoring one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, three Terrapin infield errors caused eight Husker runs in the sixth inning. Maryland couldn't answer in the bottom half and Nebraska held on for a 14-2 victory to even the series.
Brenna Nation started the game and went 3.2 allowing three earned runs. Hannah Dewey and Ari Jarvis followed in relief, combining for 2.1 innings.
The Terps and Huskers will face off in the rubber match tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
