Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Skylynne Ellazar drove in three runs, but the Terrapins surrendered twelve in a 12-3 loss to Michigan State on Friday night.
Sophomore Skylynne Ellazar hit her third dinger of the season to give Maryland a 2-0 lead right off the bat. Ellazar's jack scored Lindsey Schmeiser to bring the senior within one run of the all-time Maryland softball run record.
Madison Martin started the game for Maryland and held the Spartans in check through two. The Spartans used a two out surge to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. A RBI triple by Ebonee Echols, and then a two run long ball by Celeste Wood gave Michigan State a 3-2 lead.
Again all with two outs, the Spartans scored three more in the fifth. Maryland responded in the bottom half to get one back. Jordan Aughinbaugh led off with a double and then Lindsey Schmeiser reached on an error. With two outs, Ellazar poked a single for her third RBI.
Brenna Nation relieved Martin in the fifth to finish out the game in the circle.
Michigan State put the game out of reach in the sixth inning with six runs on four hits and two Maryland errors.
Maryland will look to even up the series with Michigan State tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
