COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Jake Layman returned to College Park Thursday afternoon to participate in his graduation ceremony. Layman, an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection as senior, will graduate with an American Studies degree.
“I'm excited to come back to College Park and celebrate this exciting time with my family, teammates, coaches and friends,” said Layman, who is one of just 12 players in school history to record 1,400 points (1,436) and 600 rebounds (674). “I had an unbelievable four years at Maryland. I had a great experience and enjoyed being a part of an outstanding program and university.”
Layman has had an ambitious schedule over the past month – working out in Chicago in preparation for the NBA Draft on June 23. Last week, he participated in the NBA Combine in Chicago and, according to Layman, he has between 10-12 individual workouts scheduled with NBA teams over the next few weeks.
In fact, Layman traveled back to College Park late Wednesday evening from a workout with the Boston Celtics. But today marked an important milestone for Layman and his family. Along with his mom, Claire, and his dad, Tim, Layman had a strong contingent of family and friends celebrating this special occasion.
Joining Layman as a member of the Class of 2016 from the men's basketball program are: Trevor Anzmann (Engineering; Aerospace), Robert Carter, Jr. (Family Science), Richaud Pack (Master of Business Administration) and Varun Ram (Master of Science: Supply Chain Management).
"I'm very proud and excited for Trevor, Robert, Jake, Richaud and Varun,” said head coach Mark Turgeon. “They did an outstanding job representing our program both on and off the court. They contributed a great deal to our university and I am really excited to see what the future has in store for them.”
