Learning Specialist

As a member of a progressive ASCDU team, the Learning Specialist will manage a caseload of at-risk student-athletes while developing and managing individualized learning plans for student-athletes for the purpose of providing support, developing academic skills, and engaging in ongoing academic assessment. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: meeting regularly with assigned student-athletes to assess individualized learning needs; working individually with student-athletes specific to enhancing academic skill development; assisting with the management of the day-to-day operations of Learning Support Services for student-athletes; working collaboratively with the ASCDU Athletic Academic Counselors and Program Coordinators to engage in providing comprehensive academic support programming for all student-athletes; conducting assessments and evaluations of incoming student-athletes; acting as a liaison between the ASCDU and the University Office of Disability Support Services; and all other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Counseling or a related academic field, along with 1 year of related experience. Must have the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Must maintain strict adherence to NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules and regulations affecting the ASCDU (Academic Support and Career Development Unit), ICA (Intercollegiate Athletics), and University.

Master's degree preferred along with experience working in academic support services in athletics; experience in teaching learning strategies and other study skill instructional techniques; experience working with various components of the GradesFirst software.
