COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 2016 Maryland volleyball freshman class was selected as one of the top recruiting classes in the nation by Volleyball Magazine on Tuesday. The Terps received honorable mention from the publication.
Volleyball Magazine ranked the top 10 classes in Division I and included five honorable mention programs. The other 14 programs listed competed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The current freshman class includes outside hitter
Gia Milana, middle blocker
Katie Myers, setter
Taylor Smith, defensive specialist
Nell Drummey, outside hitter
Megan McTigue and outside hitter
Aylin Saran. Milana and Myers were named to Volleyball Magazine's Fab 50 list as top incoming freshmen in March.
Milana was ranked as the No. 16 recruit nationally by PrepVolleyball.com while Myers ranked No. 62. Smith was included in PrepVolleyball's 'The 150'.
Every freshman except Myers, who is returning from injury, saw action in the opening weekend of the season. Milana was named to the Maryland Invite all-tournament team after leading the Terps' offense.
