AUSTIN, Texas- Freshmen Amanda Brashear and Anna Kufta notched two hits a piece but the Terrapins dropped a pair of games to Colorado State and Texas on Saturday at the Texas Invitational.
Maryland will finish up its stay in Austin with a morning rematch against #14 Minnesota tomorrow at 11:00 ET.
GAME ONE
Ari Jarvis threw 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, striking out three, but the Terrapins dropped a 6-3 contest to Colorado State to begin day two at the Texas Invitational.
The contest with the Rams started much like the first meeting between the two schools did, with Colorado State taking an early lead, by way of three runs in the first and two in the second.
After those five runs, Jarvis came in and shut the Rams down until the seventh inning.
Amanda Brashear continued the hot start to her career with two hits in the affair.
Maryland scored all three of its runs in the seventh inning. Kristina Dillard and Madison Martin both reached on errors followed by Brigette Nordberg's first career hit, a RBI single. Andi Jarvis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Destiney Henderson brought in the third with an infield slap single.
GAME TWO
Anna Kufta smashed a two-run home run, her second of the weekend, but the Terrapins fell to Texas 10-2 in six innings.
After a scoreless first frame each way, Texas jumped on top in the second with two runs off three hits. The Longhorns would add three in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the sixth to round out their ten.
Maryland got two singles from Skylynne Ellazar, including a leadoff dart in the fourth inning which was followed by Kufta's dinger.
Hannah Dewey threw 2.2 innings and allowed zero earned runs for Maryland in relief.
