CAIRO, EGYPT - Kevin Huerter and Joshua Tomaic helped Team USA and Spain, respectively, reach a perfect 4-0 mark in the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.
The United States defeated Mali, 117-69, in the Round of 16. Spain also advanced after beating Iran, 70-50.
Both teams advanced to the quarterfinals, which will take place on Friday, July 7. USA and Spain are the lone teams to boast perfect 4-0 records at this point in the tournament.
Huerter, a native of Clifton Park, New York, has averaged 5.3 points and a team-high 3.5 assists per game in just nearly 16 minutes per game.
Coming off a successful freshman campaign at College Park in which he averaged 9.3 points per game, Huerter came off the bench to add eight points and four assists in the 98-65 win over Italy on Tuesday.
Tomaic, a redshirt freshman for Maryland, and a native of the Canary Islands, has been an integral part of Spain's success averaging 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. Tomaic concluded the group stage round with a nine-point and five-rebound performance in a 62-43 win over Mali.
The USA will play the winner of New Zealand vs. Germany in the quarterfinals and Spain awaits the winner of Argentina and tournament host Egypt. Both games will be played on Friday, July 7 with tip times to be scheduled at a later date.
