UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State's Kerry Abello scored the lone goal of the game in the 60th minute to lift Penn State (10-5-0, 6-2-0) to a 1-0 win over Maryland (4-8-4, 2-5-1) Friday evening.
After a scoreless first half, Penn State broke into the scoring column after Abello took an assist from Emily Ogle from the right wing. She converted her shot into the left corner of the box to give the hosts the eventual game winner.
Penn State managed to dictate the pace for much of the first half, but Maryland's defense held firm to keep the game even. Rachel Egyed made a pair of crucial saves for the Terps, finishing with three saves in the period as teams went to the locker room knotted as zero.
Egyed would total six total saves in the game, keeping Maryland within striking distance. The Terps would total only six shots on the night to drop the first leg of a three-game road trip.
Maryland in back on the road Sunday for a 2:00 pm matchup at Ohio State.
