Terps Welcome Ohio State to College Park on Senior Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's soccer team returns to Big Ten play this Friday night when Ohio State comes to College Park. The Terps will look to even up their Big Ten record while the Buckeyes look for their second win of the season.

Storylines
  • Maryland will honor five seniors prior to Friday night's game; Sebastian Elney, Amar Sejdic, DJ Reeves, Andrew Samuels and Chase Gasper. Redshirt junior Dayne St. Clair, who entered Maryland with this class, will also be honored.
  • Maryland is 6-1-0 against Ohio State all-time and have won the last three. Sebastian Elney scored the late winner in that game in Columbus.
  • After consecutive games against top-10 teams, Maryland has now played the second toughest schedule in the country according to RPI. The Terps sit 18 in the RPI rankings, only behind Indiana among Big Ten teams.
  • Junior Paul Bin scored his third goal of the season in the fifth minute to lead the Terps to their biggest win of the season, a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Denver. Bin has now scored in back-to-back matches after his goal last Friday at Indiana. Bin is now tied with William James Herve for the team lead in points and goals.
  • Herve has been a revelation for the Terps since arriving from Paris before the season. The freshman has three goals and two assists and he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his two goal performance in Maryland's come-from behind win over Northwestern on Sept. 14. Herve was the first Terp freshman to score two goals in a game since Eryk Williamson in 2015. He was also an honorable mention selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week. Herve earned that honor again after his performances against Coastal and Rutgers.
  • The Terps rank No. 2 in the nation in average attendance this season with 3,351. Maryland boasts two of the top five single game attendances in the country this season, drawing 5,875 against Wisconsin and 5,802 against Stanford.
  • The Terrapins notched a huge road win on Sept. 30 when they defeated then-No. 18 Coastal Carolina, 3-1. Freshman Justin Gielen netted his first career goal, which turned out to be the winner, in-between goals from William James Herve and Sebastian Elney. Junior Paul Bin notched two assists.
  • The win over Coastal completed a 2-0 week for the Terps, who also took down Rutgers 2-0 on the road. Sophomore Eric Matzelevich tallied the opening goal off an Eli Crognale cross in the 14th minute. Senior Amar Sejdic sealed the match in the 78th minute off a Herve cross.
Honoring the Past
  • The Maryland men's soccer program honored the 50th anniversary of its first-ever national championship by welcoming back members of the 1968 title winning squad to Friday night's match against Michigan State. The team was recognized on the field prior to the Terrapins' nationally televised match with the Spartans. Maryland and Michigan State shared that 1968 national title after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw and were named co-champions.
  • Maryland's 1968 season was one of the finest seasons in program history. The Terrapins were the lone undefeated team in college soccer that year, finishing with a 14-0-1 record, and captured their 16th consecutive ACC title. The squad is one of three Maryland teams to finish the entire season unbeaten (1947, 1958).
