COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Currently on its longest winning streak of the year, the Maryland men's soccer team heads to Ann Arbor to face Michigan in its final regular season match of the year. With a win or a draw against the Wolverines, Maryland would claim at least the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. With a win and a Michigan State loss, Maryland would claim the No. 3 seed.
Storylines
- Maryland is 3-2-2 against Michigan all-time. The Wolverines won the last meeting between the two sides, 2-1 in overtime, which clinched the Big Ten Regular Season Title for Michigan. This is the third consecutive season the teams have played each other in the regular season finale.
- Maryland defeated Penn State, 3-2, on Paul Bin's double overtime winner Tuesday night. Bin has now scored in his last three apperances, also tallying against Denver and Indiana. Maryland's 14 goals in Big Ten play are the most in the conference.
- Senior Amar Sejdic has saved his best for last in his final season as a Terp. The Terps midfield general has three goals in his last two matches and leads the Terps with five for the season.
- The Terps stormed to a 5-0 victory against Ohio State last Friday, notching its highest total of goals and largest margin of victory this season. Amar Sejdic (2), Sebastian Elney, Donovan Pines and Mike Heitzmann tallied the goals. The Terps last 5-0 win came on April 29, 2016 against Hartford.
- In that match with Ohio State, Chase Gasper notched three assists, tying a Maryland program record held by eight other players. The feat was most recently accomplished by Stephen King on Nov. 3, 2007 against Virginia.
- An imposing figure at 6'5, Donovan Pines scored his first career headed goal against Ohio State. Pines added the goal to what has been an outstanding season that has seen him transform into one of the top centerbacks in the country.
- After two shutouts last week against Denver and Ohio State, Dayne St. Clair now has seven for the season, which ranks 12th in the country and second in the Big Ten. St. Clair was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the week for his performance.
- Herve has been a revelation for the Terps since arriving from Paris before the season. The freshman has three goals and two assists and he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his two goal performance in Maryland's come-from behind win over Northwestern on Sept. 14. Herve was the first Terp freshman to score two goals in a game since Eryk Williamson in 2015. He was also an honorable mention selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week. Herve earned that honor again after his performances against Coastal and Rutgers.
Honoring the Past
- The Maryland men's soccer program honored the 50th anniversary of its first-ever national championship by welcoming back members of the 1968 title winning squad to Friday night's match against Michigan State. The team was recognized on the field prior to the Terrapins' nationally televised match with the Spartans. Maryland and Michigan State shared that 1968 national title after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw and were named co-champions.
- Maryland's 1968 season was one of the finest seasons in program history. The Terrapins were the lone undefeated team in college soccer that year, finishing with a 14-0-1 record, and captured their 16th consecutive ACC title. The squad is one of three Maryland teams to finish the entire season unbeaten (1947, 1958).
