COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With wins in three of its last four matches, the Maryland soccer team welcomes No. 13 Michigan State to College Park for a Friday night affair. The game will be broadcast on BTN with Dean Linke and former Maryland All-American Jason Garey calling the action. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Storylines

• Maryland will honor the 50th anniversary of its first-ever national championship by welcoming back members of the 1968 title winning squad to Friday night's match. The team will be recognized on the field prior to the match. Maryland and Michigan State shared that 1968 national title after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw and were named co-champions.
• Maryland is 3-4-3 against Michigan State all-time. The teams played to a scoreless draw in last year's game in East Lansing. Maryland won the two meetings in the 2016 season. Amar Sejdic scored the winning goal in Maryland's 2-1 win in the 2016 Big Ten semifinals. 
• The Terrapins notched their biggest win of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 18 Coastal Carolina, 3-1. Freshman Justin Gielen netted his first career goal, which turned out to be the winner, between goals from William James Herve and Sebastian Elney.
• The win over Coastal completed a 2-0 week for the Terps, who also took down Rutgers 2-0 on the road. Sophomore Eric Matzelevich tallied the opening goal off an Eli Crognale cross in the 14th minute. Senior Amar Sejdic sealed the match in the 78th minute off a Herve cross.
•  Herve has been sensational over the past four games. The freshman has three goals and two assists over that span and he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his two goal performance in Maryland's come-from behind win over Northwestern on Sept. 14. Herve was the first Terp freshman to score two goals in a game since Eryk Williamson in 2015. He was also an honorable mention selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week. 
• Junior Paul Bin has come into his own in the last two matches he's played. Bin notched his first career goal against Wisconsin before missing the match at Rutgers because of a knock. Bin responded with a two assist performance at Coastal.  
• Junior center back Donovan Pines has emerged as one of the top defenders in the country. The Maryland native led the Terps to their two shutouts over Stanford and Virginia and was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week as a result. Pines team with German Johannes Bergmann to form one of the top center back duos in the country. 
• Maryland boasts two of the top four single game attendances in the country this season, drawing 5,875 against Wisconsin and 5,802 against Stanford. The Terps rank No. 1 in average attendance this season with 3,961. 

 
Honoring the Past

• The Maryland men's soccer program will honor the 50th anniversary of its first-ever national championship by welcoming back members of the 1968 title winning squad to Friday night's match against No. 5 Michigan State. The team will be recognized on the field prior to the Terrapins' nationally televised match with the Spartans. Maryland and Michigan State shared that 1968 national title after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw and were named co-champions. 
• Maryland's 1968 season was one of the finest seasons in program history. The Terrapins were the lone undefeated team in college soccer that year, finishing with a 14-0-1 record, and captured their 16th consecutive ACC title. The squad is one of three Maryland teams to finish the entire season unbeaten (1947, 1958).  

 
Big Ten Preseason Honors

• Senior midfielder Amar Sejdic, redshirt junior goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair and junior defender Donovan Pines were named to the Big Ten Preseason honors list. 
• Sejdic, a 2016 first-team All-Big Ten selection, is Maryland's top returning assist man with four. Pines was a second-team All-Big Ten selection a season ago after being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in his debut campaign.

Meet The New Guys!

• Top Drawer Soccer named Maryland's incoming recruiting class the 12th best in the nation, continuing the program's legacy of top rated classes. Frisco native Brayan Padilla (FC Dallas), the 58th ranked player in TDS' rankings headlines the class with fellow ranked recruit Russell Shealy (102, Atlanta United) and MLS academy product Vinicius Lansade. All three have had success in the US Soccer Development Academy, with Lansade leading NYCFC to a U-19/18 title this year.
• Four Maryland natives feature in Maryland's class; Justin Gielen (Baltimore Celtic), Nick Richardson (Baltimore Celtic), Brett St. Martin (Baltimore Celtic) and Craig Eichelberger (Baltimore Armour). The trio from Celtic are proven winners, with St. Martin helping the club win a US Youth Soccer U-19 National Championship prior to Richardson and Gielen leading the outfit to a U-18 crown.
• Maryland's class is completed by a pair of international players; Slovakia native Richard Bedats and France native William James Herve. Bedats has a distinguished youth pedigree, captaining Slovakian youth sides from the U-15 to U-19 level. He chose the Terps over a number of national bluebloods including North Carolina, Indiana and Wake Forest. 

 
Captains

• Dayne St. Clair, Amar Sejdic and Chase Gasper are the captains of this year's squad. St. Clair and Sejdic are first-time captains while Gasper was named a captain midway through the 2017 season after transferring to Maryland from UCLA.
