THIS WEEKEND'S STORYLINES
1. Maryland this season has forced eight more turnovers than it has lost, tied with Michigan for the best mark in the Big Ten and the 14th best mark in the country. The Terps have caused 22 turnovers (14 interceptions, eight fumbles) while only coughing the ball up eight times. Maryland has won or tied the turnover battle in nine of 11 games this season.
2. Through 11 games, Maryland has recorded 18 interceptions, tied with Utah State for the highest total in the country. The Terps are the only team in the Big Ten and one of just two FBS teams with at least one interception in every game this season. Senior LB Tre Watson is third in the country and leads the Big Ten with five interceptions and junior S Darnell Savage Jr. is right behind him with four, the fourth most in the country. CB Ravon Davis notched a 37-yard pick six this past weekend against Ohio State to start the third quarter.
3. Of Maryland's 535 offensive yards against Ohio State, 441 of them were accounted for by freshmen, good for 82.4 percent of the team's offensive output. RB Anthony McFarland totaled 298, WR Darryl Jones had 68, WR Dontay Demus posted 56 and WR Jeshaun Jones tallied 19, leading the way for the Terps offense.Â
4. With a senior running back Ty Johnson 98-yard kickoff return touchdown at #15 Michigan on October 6 and a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown by sophomore running back Javon Leake against Illinois, Maryland is the only team in the FBS with two kickoff return touchdowns of over 95 yards and also the only team in the FBS that has two different players who have recorded a kickoff return touchdown.
5. Redshirt freshman running back Anthony McFarland has rewritten the Maryland record book over the past two weeks, recording back-to-back 200-yard rushing games, the first time a Terp has done that since 1979 (Charlie Wysocki). Both his 298 yard performance against Ohio State and 210 yard game against Indiana were the most ever in a single game by a freshman. The 298 yards vs. the Buckeyes were the second most rushing yards ever in a single game by a Terp, trailing only LaMont Jordan's 306 yard performance in 1999.
