COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland volleyball team will finish up their regular season with two road matches on back-to-back nights against Iowa and #6 Nebraska.
QUICK HITS
• Maryland stands at 17-13 overall and 8-10 in Big Ten play, the most wins Maryland has ever had in Big Ten play. The Terps had one of their best weeks in years two weeks back, taking down #15 Michigan and Ohio State in straight sets on the road. The win over Michigan was the first road win over a ranked team in program history. The win in Columbus marked the first time Maryland has ever won at Ohio State.
• Maryland is led by sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard who leads the Big Ten with 4.29 kills per set. Pritchard who has 455 kills, 272 digs and 59 blocks on the season and has 13 double-doubles this year.
• Sophomore setter Nicole Alford leads the team with 1056 assists this season, at 9.96 per set. Freshman libero Allegra Rivas is first in digs with 493, at 4.65 per set. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers leads the team in both blocks (116) and aces (53).
ROAD WARRIORS
• Maryland is 8-4 on the road this season, the most wins away from home Maryland has had since 2005 and the second most in the Big Ten, trailing only #4 Illinois.
• Not only has Maryland won eight road matches, but the Terps haven't lost a set in any of those eight wins. On the road this season, the Terps have won 25 of 37 sets.
• Included in Maryland's eight road wins are straight-set victories at #15 Michigan and Ohio State, places where the Terps had never won before this season.
RIVAS EARNS BIG TEN HONORS
• Freshman libero Allegra Rivas has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, the most of any player in the conference.
• After posting 32 digs over two matches including 24 in Maryland's win at No. 15 Michigan, freshman libero Allegra Rivas was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Rivas led the Maryland defense as they held the 15th ranked Wolverines to a .066 hitting percentage, averaging eight digs per set. The 24 digs surpass her previous three set high of 23 against Minnesota on September 22 and are the most by a freshman in a three-set Big Ten match since Illinois' Brandi Donnelly had 25 on October 1, 2014 as well as the most ever by a Maryland player in a three-set Big Ten match.
• In the Terps two games against Purdue and Indiana, Rivas totaled 40 digs, at a Big Ten best 5.71 digs per set. The freshman managed 19 digs over four sets in the loss at Purdue on Friday before averaging seven digs per set for a total of 21, helping Maryland cruise to a straight set win at Indiana on Sunday.
• Rivas also earned the honor on September 24, after averaging a Big Ten best 6.17 digs per set in her first ever two conference matches against Rutgers and #3 Minnesota.
• The Aledo, Tx. native is the first freshman to win this award three times in a single season since 2011.
PRITCHARD & MYERS - TOP OF THE LEAGUE
• Sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard has had an impressive sophomore season, currently leading the Big Ten with 4.29 kills per set.
• Over the last 12 matches, which include six against top-20 opponents, Pritchard has 197 kills at 4.69 per set. The sophomore was on fire in the Terps wins against Indiana and Iowa, posting 20 kills in each three-set victory, the most kills by a Terp in any three set Big Ten match since Maryland's joined the conference.
• Earlier the season at the Akron Invitational, the sophomore totaled 56 kills and 35 digs, recording a double-double in all three games en route to being named the tournament's MVP. The Middletown, Md. native has a double-double in seven of 12 contests this season.
• Redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers is in front of the B1G with 54 aces at 0.50 per set and ranking towards the top in blocks with 116 at 1.09 per set. Myers has had three matches with five aces this season (South Carolina, New Hampshire, Northwestern).
TERPS UPSET #15 MICHIGAN IN STRAIGHT SETS
• In a complete team performance, the Maryland volleyball team (16-11, 7-8 Big Ten) upset No. 15 Michigan in straight sets (25-20, 30-28, 25-19) last Wednesday night.
• The Terps dominated at the net, totaling 13.5 blocks, led by six from freshman middle blocker Rainelle Jones and five from freshman middle blocker Katie Myers. Maryland notched 11 blocks in the second set alone, the most the Terps have ever had in a set in a Big Ten match.
• This marked the first road win over a ranked team in program history and the Terps first ever win over Michigan.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
• Maryland has gotten a lot of contributions from their freshman so far this season, with all three of them playing crucial roles.
• Middle blocker Rainelle Jones, the only freshman committed before the spring has started in all 30 matches and has totaled 0.96 blocks per set, playing a huge role defensively as well as offensively.
• Libero Allegra Rivas has also started in every match, making huge impact, ranking fourth in the Big Ten with 4.65 digs/set and earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 24, October 22 and November 13.
• Outside hitter Emma Schriner stepped into a starting role on the outside as conference play began with an injury to Jada Gardner and has filled in with 97 kills and 47 blocks.
SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES
• Iowa currently stands one game below .500 at 14-15, with a 6-12 mark in Big Ten play
• The Terps and Hawkeyes have each won four of their eight meetings, with Maryland winning the last two.
• Earlier this season, Maryland took down Iowa in straight sets in College Park, led by 20 kills from Erika Pritchard and a strong defensive performance that featured 52 digs and a season-best 12 blocks
SCOUTING THE HUSKERS
• The defending National Champions, Nebraska are currently the sixth ranked team in the country and have a record of 22-6 and 13-5 in Big Ten play, coming off wins at #12 Purdue and Indiana.
• Nebraska has won 10 of the 11 previous meetings against Maryland, including both matchups last season.
