STORYLINES

•  Maryland holds an 7-5 edge in the all-time series between the two schools, which started back in 1914. The Terps have won seven straight meetings since 1971, as the teams play for the first time since February 2, 2003 when Maryland won 85-58 at XFINITY Center.

•  Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 17 points and No. 23 Maryland used its smothering defense to beat Loyola of Chicago 55-41 in its last game on December 8. Cowan became the 55th player in Maryland history to score 1,000 career points, hitting the milestone with a free throw in the first half of the game at Royal Farms Arena.

•  Cowan has paced the Terps offense over the past five games, averaging 18.2 points and 4.8 assists since November 23. He currently ranks inside the top-10 in the Big Ten in both scoring average (16.6) and assists per game (4.6).

•  Maryland's 41 points allowed against Loyola Chicago were the fewest scored by an opponent this season, and the lowest total allowed by a Maryland team since the Terps beat Colgate 95-40 on January 4, 2011. The 41 points is the fewest allowed under head coach Mark Turgeon in his eight seasons at Maryland.

•  Maryland posted 13 blocks in their win over the Ramblers, the most in a game for Maryland since January 9, 2013 when the Terps finished with 13 blocks vs. Florida State. The mark ties the most blocks for a Terrapin team under Mark Turgeon.

•  Sophomore Bruno Fernando has thrived defensively in his role as the team's rim protector, averaging a Big Ten-best 2.4 blocked shots per game. Fernando has hit his career-high four blocks three different times this season, including Maryland's win over Loyola Chicago on December 8.

•  Fernando is nearly averaging a double-double (14.0 points, 9.8 rebounds) for the season, and posted three straight double-doubles for the Terps from Nov. 23 to Dec. 1. Fernando became the first Terrapin to post double-doubles in three consecutive games since Jordan Williams had a streak of three from February 23 to March 2, 2011 against Florida State, North Carolina & Miami. Fernando's four double-doubles have already surpassed his total from last season (3), and ranks fourth-highest in the Big Ten.
