STORYLINES
•  Maryland won the only all-time meeting between the two schools back on December 23, 2011 defeating the Highlanders 65-60 at the XFINITY Center.Â
•  Forwards Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith combined for 33 points and 18 rebounds, but the Maryland men's basketball team fell to Seton Hall, 78-74 in their last game out on December 22.Â
•  Jalen Smith was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on December 17 after a career-best performance against Loyola (Md.), scoring a career-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while adding eight rebounds and two blocks. It marks the second Freshman of the Week honor of the season for the Baltimore native, who currently ranks third on the team in points (11.7/g) and second in rebounds (7.1/g), while ranking fifth in the Big Ten in offensive rebounds (2.9/g).
•  Freshman Eric Ayala has shined for the Terps the past two games as the team's primary point guard, recording 12 assists while turning the ball over just once. The Wilmington, Del. native has averaged 13 points and 4.5 rebounds over the same stretch, and is shooting a team-best 43.5% (17-for-39) from three-point range.  Â
•  Six different Terps finished in double figures in the win over the Greyhounds, marking the first time since Maryland's 91-73 win over Iowa on Jan. 1, 2017 that at least six Maryland players totaled double digits in a game. Â
•  Maryland's 41 points allowed against Loyola Chicago were the fewest scored by an opponent this season, and the lowest total allowed by a Maryland team since the Terps beat Monmouth 71-38 on Dec. 12, 2012. The 41 points is the second fewest allowed under Turgeon in his eight seasons at Maryland.Â
•  Sophomore Bruno Fernando has thrived defensively in his role as the team's rim protector, averaging a Big Ten-best 2.6 blocked shots per game. Fernando has hit his career-high four blocks four different times this season, including two of Maryland's last three games.Â
•  Fernando is nearly averaging a double-double (14.2 points, 9.4 rebounds) for the season, and posted three straight double-doubles for the Terps from Nov. 23 to Dec. 1. Fernando became the first Terrapin to post double-doubles in three consecutive games since Jordan Williams had a streak of three from February 23 to March 2, 2011 against Florida State, North Carolina & Miami. Fernando's five double-doubles have already surpassed his total from last season (3), and ranks third-highest in the Big Ten.Â
