COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 23 Maryland will play its first Big Ten road contest of the season Thursday when the Terps travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to face Purdue. Tip-off at Mackey Arena is slated for 7:00 pm, and the game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

STORYLINES

•  Purdue owns a 2-4 edge in the all-time series between the two schools, which began when Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2014-15. Three of the past four meetings between the Terps and Boilermakers have been decided by five points or less.

•  Maryland remained in the Associated Press Top-25 for the second straight week on December 3, moving up one spot to No. 23 after going 1-1 last week. The Terps made their debut in the USA Today Coaches Poll this week, checking in at No. 23.

•  Freshman Jalen Smith scored 16 points, Bruno Fernando had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Maryland opened Big Ten with a 66-59 win over Penn State in its last time out on December 1. Anthony Cowan Jr. chipped in with 15 points, including two clutch 3s in the closing minutes. The last of those long-range jumpers, hoisted as the shot-clock expired, made it 64-59 with 34 seconds left.

•  Cowan Jr. now sits just 25 points shy of 1000 for his Maryland career. The Bowie, Md. native has averaged 13.4 points per game as a Terrapin, and is again leading his team in scoring this year (16.4/g).

•  Sophomore Bruno Fernando is currently averaging a double-double (15.4 points, 10.0 rebounds) for the season, and has posted three straight double-doubles for the Terps. Fernando became the first Terrapin to post double-doubles in three consecutive games since Jordan Williams had a streak of three from February 23 to March 2, 2011 against Florida State, North Carolina & Miami. Fernando's four double-doubles have already surpassed his total from last season (3), and ranks third-highest in the Big Ten.

•  Maryland dropped a tightly contested 76-71 game to No. 4 Virginia on November 28 in front of a sold out crowd at the XFINITY Center. The Terps averaged 1.16 points per possession against the Cavaliers – the second most by a team over the past two years. Additionally, Maryland is just the sixth team to shoot at least 54% and score at least 71 points against Virginia in Tony Bennett's 10-year tenure in Charlottesville.

•  In Maryland's 104-67 win over Marshall on November 23, Anthony Cowan Jr. became the first Terp to finish with at least 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists since Greivis Vasquez finished with 41/7/6 in a 104-100 double overtime victory at Virginia Tech on February 27, 2010.
