COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Buoyed by a second inning two-run home run, Utah fought past the Terps to seal a 7-1 win in Maryland's opening game of the Maryland Invitational Thursday evening. The Terps (6-14) tallied five hits, but the Utes' (11-7) home run and a five-run seventh made the difference.

Freshman Ryan Denhart had a strong start in the circle with 6.1 innings and three strikeouts. Denhart now falls to 3-6 on the season despite a 2.85 ERA.

Sophomore Anna Kufta provided the Terps' offense with a solo home run in the fourth inning to cut into Utah's lead.

Utah broke away in the final inning when the Utes took advantage of a trio of errors that culminated in five runs.

The Terrapins will return again tomorrow afternoon as part of the Maryland Invitational. They will take on Miami (Ohio) in the first game before challenging Jacksonville in the evening.
