Terps Edged in OT Vs. Nebraska

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Nebraska's Faith Carter scored off a corner kick in the second minute of overtime to clinch a 2-1 win for the Huskers (5-4-1, 1-0-1 B1G) over Maryland (3-4-3, 1-1 B1G) Sunday afternoon.

It was one of two points on the day for Carter, who also assisted on the game-tying goal in the 63rd minute for the visitors.

After a quiet opening 25 minutes of play in the game at Ludwig Field, Maryland jumped out to a 1-0 lead scoring on the team's first shot attempt in the 26th minute.

Mikayla Dayes and Hope Lewandoski set up a beautiful give-and-go sequence down the right wing, freeing Dayes up to  make a cross into the box. Redshirt junior Darby Moore was there to finish, one-timing the ball past the Nebraska goalkeeper to put UMD in front.

Maryland weathered the storm from the Huskers for the remainder of the half and early into the second. Goalkeeper Rachel Egyed put together an admirable effort in net, making two critical saves in the second period of play to keep her side ahead.

It appeared that Moore had her second goal of the day and third of the weekend in the second half, after volleying a pass past the goalie. However, the assistant referee's flag went up, as she was called offside and the game remained at 1-0.

Nebraska eventually broke through in the 63rd, after a rebound from Carter's shot was scored by Savanah Uveges. Both defenses clamped down for the rest of the half, as Maryland went to OT for the fifth time this season.

Maryland will continue Big Ten play next Sunday, September 23 when the Terp host Rutgers at Ludwig Field.
