COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Anissa Mose scored with less than four minutes to play to force overtime, but a Rutgers goal one minute into OT made the difference as the Scarlet Knights (6-1-3, 2-0-1 B1G) escaped with a 2-1 win over Maryland Sunday.
The Terps (3-5-3, 1-2 B1G) were neck-and-neck with the visitors throughout the game in rainy and wet conditions at Ludwig Field, playing in their sixth overtime contest of the season.
Down 1-0 with just minutes to go in the second half, Hope Lewandoksi lined up for a free kick from the right side. Her boot into the box deflected off a Rutgers defender, and made its way over to Mose who was positioned at the top of the 18-yard box. The Laurel, Md. native smoked a right-footed shot towards the right side of the cage, which deflected off the Scarlet Knight keeper and into the net to tie the game.
After a quiet first half, Maryland came out firing in the second half, recording a handful of early shot attempts after only notching one in the first half. Rutgers would be the first to convert in the 79th minute though, as Nneka Moneme broke through for the Scarlet Knights off a cross from Amirah Ali.
Maryland continued to press despite the deficit, earning possession in their final third before Mose netted the tying goal.
Rutgers sealed the deal a minute into overtime, as Amirah slotted the game-winner into the left corner of the cage.
Maryland will return to action on September 27 when the Terps travel to face Minnesota.
