#3 Maryland Set for Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (5-0) will host the 22nd annual Terrapin Invitational at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex this weekend. No. 12 Delaware (2-2), No. 17 Harvard (2-0) and American 3-1) will all come to College Park Saturday.

• Admission is free for all four games. Parking is free in the lots surrounding the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

• Only the Maryland-Delaware game Saturday will be streamed live online through BTN Plus and can be seen on BTN2Go.com and the BTN2Go app. Fans can watch with their BTN Plus subscriptions. Fans outside the U.S. can watch here.

• Maryland is coming off of two top-13 wins last weekend in the B1G/ACC Cup. The Terps beat No. 13 Boston College, 3-2, Friday, then No. 3 Duke, 4-3, Sunday. Four different Terrapins scored in Sunday's win - Bibi Donraadt, Bodil Keus, Nike Lorenz and Melissa Wilken. | STATS

• Senior goalkeeper Sarah Holliday was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after she made 10 saves to preserve the Terps' victory over the Blue Devils. This is her second career weekly honor.

• At 5-0, Maryland is off to its best start since 2013.

SCOUTING REPORT

• Maryland is 24-10-2 all-time vs. Delaware and is 6-0 against the Blue Hens at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terps won the last matchup, 7-2, on Oct. 17, 2010.

• Terrapins Sabrina Rhodes and Sophie Giezeman both have sisters, Lisa Giezeman and Sydney Rhodes, on the Delaware squad.

• Head coach Missy Meharg graduated from Delaware in 1985. She was named a second team All-American in 1983 and is top 10 in the Delaware record books with 42 career goals.

• Maryland is 2-0 all-time vs. Harvard. They last met in 2005.

• Harvard head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden was the Terps' technical director and associate head coach from 2005 through 2011, helping them to five NCAA titles. Current Terrapin assistant coaches Katie and Marvin Bam were assistants at Harvard in 2016.

MARYLAND IN THE TOP 10

• Maryland was tabbed as the No. 3 team in the country in the latest Penn Monto/Division I Coaches poll released Sept. 4.

• The Terrapins have been ranked in the top 10 for 199 weeks since 1999.

HOME SWEET HOME

Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.

• The Terps are 169-20 (.894) all-time at the Complex.

• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.

• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 26 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games and has played host to three Final Fours (2007, 2010, 2014). The Terrapins are 23-3 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.

PACK THE HOUSE

• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance in five of the last eight years.

• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.

THREE TERPS EARN PRESEASON BIG TEN HONORS
• Senior Linnea Gonzales, junior Kelee Lepage and sophomore Brooke DeBerdine were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list in August. The full list, click HERE.

• This marks Gonzales' fourth straight year earning Big Ten Preseason honors. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015 and All-Big Ten First Team honors last season. Gonzales is the Terps' second leading returning scorer with 10 goals last season, including three in their NCAA Tournament run to the national championship game.

• Lepage started in 12 of 22 games as a sophomore last year. She scored one goal in a game at Michigan State and notched three assists.

• As a freshman last season, DeBerdine started in all 23 games and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

• Seniors Linnea Gonzales, Julie Duncan and junior Kelee Lepage were voted team captains before the season. The full list, click HERE.

• The trio was votes on by their peers after a team vote. All three Terps are new to the captainship role.

OVERTIME IS TERPS TIME

During Missy Meharg's tenure, the Terrapins have become one of the nation's most dangerous teams in overtime.

• The Terps are 64-25 (.719) all-time in games that went to overtime or penalty strokes.

• In Meharg's tenure, the Terps are 53-21 (.716) in overtime or penalty strokes games.

STAFF UPDATES
• The Terrapins welcome two new assistant staff members in 2018. Kati Nearhouse comes on board as the team's Director of Operations and former Terrapin Kasey Tapman joins as the team's volunteer assistant coach.

• Nearhouse comes to Maryland after spending the 2017 season as an assistant coach at Bryant. Prior to her time at Bryant, Nearhouse worked for two seasons at her alma mater, Syracuse, as the Director of Operations for field hockey. She played her first three seasons at Old Dominion before transferring to Syracuse to finish her career. As a player, Nearhouse was named an NFHCA Division I Second Team All-American after a standout sophomore campaign in 2011. That season, she started 25 games and tallied 21 points off eight goals and five assists, leading the Lady Monarchs to the Final Four.

• Tapman was a part of five Maryland field hockey teams, including a redshirt season. She played in 77 career games. She helped the Terps to the 2011 NCAA title and three total NCAA Final Fours. In her time in College Park, Maryland won four conference titles. She is currently on the U.S. National Team's Developmental Squad.

TERPS ON NATIONAL TEAMS

• Nine Terrapins, former and present, are currently on USA Field Hockey's national team rosters. 

• Jill (Witmer) Funk competed with Team USA in the Rio Olympics last summer, along with former volunteer assistant coach Stefanie Fee. Former Terrapin Megan Frazer is on the Irish National Team and current Terp Nike Lorenz plays for Team Germany.

• Recent grads Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker are on the U.S. Women's National Team. Seniors Linnea Gonzales, Sabrina Rhodes and volunteer assistant coach Kasey Tapman are on the U.S. Developmental Squad.

• Current Terps Brooke DeBerdine, Kyler Greenwalt are on the U.S. Under-21 Team.
