Maryland Returns Home for Friday Matchup vs. #22 Indiana

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland is back home Friday, January 11 to host No. 22 Indiana at the XFINITY Center. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 (FS1). 


STORYLINES

•  Since Maryland defeated Indiana to capture the program's first-ever National Title in 2002, the Terps hold a 5-4 advantage in the head-to-head series. Since Maryland joined the Big Ten, the series is tied 3-3 with Maryland winning the last matchup at XFINITY Center 75-72 on January 10, 2017. 
   
•  Anthony Cowan Jr. matched his career high with 27 points and freshman Jalen Smith pitched in a season-best 21 points and eight rebounds, leading Maryland's rally past Minnesota their last time out on January 8, 82-67.

•  Cowan's 27 points tied his career-high set last season in Maryland's overtime win at Illinois (92-91, Dec. 3), and was his fourth 20+ scoring output of the season. 23 of Cowan's points came in the second half, while he finished perfect from the free throw line (10-for-10) on the night.   

•  Maryland shot 69.6% (16-of-23) in the second half of Tuesday's win at Minnesota, marking the team's best field goal percentage in a half this season. It was Maryland best shooting half since going 19-of-26 (73%) in the first half at Illinois last season on December 3.  

•  With its wins over Rutgers (1/5) and Minnesota (1/8), Maryland captured back-to-back road victories in the Big Ten for the first time since beating Minnesota (85-78) and Ohio State (77-71) on January 28 and 31 (respectively) during the 2016-17 season. 

•  The Terrapins' consecutive wins over the Scarlet Knights and Golden Gophers marked the first time the program secured back-to-back conference road games by double digits since defeating Virginia (66-42) and Georgia Tech (74-63) during the 2010-11 season. 

•  Freshman Jalen Smith finished with 16 points and six rebounds to lead Maryland past Rutgers 77-63 on January 5 in Maryland's last time out. Maryland put together a balanced rebounding effort against the Scarlet Knights, with four different players (Fernando, Smith, Bender & Lindo) all finishing with at least six rebounds. The Terps remain in top-10 nationally in rebounding margin (+11.2). 

•  Maryland currently plays one of the youngest lineups in the country, ranking 349th of 353 teams in KemPom's experience metric. Maryland has started at least two freshmen in 10 games this season, while three freshmen average over 25 minutes a game and five average at least 10 minutes a game.

•  Freshman Eric Ayala has risen the ranks of the Big Ten's three-point field goal percentage list this season, currently leading the conference in three point shooting (24-for-50) with a 48% clip.  the country, ranking 349th of 353 teams in KemPom's experience metric. Maryland has started at least two freshmen in 10 games this season, while three freshmen average over 25 minutes a game and five average at least 10 minutes a game.
