COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Â Maryland returns to the court Tuesday for its second straight road game when the Terrapins face Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. on January 8. The game at Williams Arena will tip-off at 7:00 pm ET and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
STORYLINES
•  Maryland holds a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series that began in 1960. The Terps have won two of the past three meetings, including a 77-66 win when the teams last played on January 19, 2018.Â
•  Maryland is seeking back-to-back road wins for the first time since beating Minnesota (85-78) and Ohio State (77-71) on January 28 and 31 (respectively) during the 2016-17 season.Â
•  Anthony Cowan Jr. had a career day against the Golden Gophers last season, posting his second career double-double (15 points, 10 assists) in the win. It was a career-high in assists for Cowan, and the most by a Terp since Melo Trimble tallied 10 against Princeton on December 19, 2015.Â
•  Freshman Jalen Smith finished with 16 points and six rebounds to lead Maryland past Rutgers 77-63 on January 5 in Maryland's last time out. Five different players finished in double figures for the Terps including Cowan, who has scored in double figures in 19 straight games.Â
•  Maryland put together a balanced rebounding effort against the Scarlet Knights, with four different players (Fernando, Smith, Bender & Lindo) all finishing with at least six rebounds. The Terps remain in top-10 nationally in rebounding margin (+11.2).Â
•  Bruno Fernando is currently averaging a double-double in conference play (12.3 points, 13.0 rebounds) and his 13.0 rebounds per game lead all Big Ten players in conference games. The Luanda, Angola native tied his career high in assists (5) against the Scarlet Knights while also posting two blocks. Â
•  Freshman Jalen Smith made a driving layup with 3.8 seconds left to break a tie, and Maryland used a late push to get past No. 24 Nebraska 74-72 on January 2. Fernando had 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 19 points and Smith accounted for Maryland's final seven points to finish with 15.
•  Fernando's 17 rebounds in the victory over the Cornhuskers were the most by a Terrapin since Charles Mitchell finished with 18 at NC State on January 20, 2014. He is the first Terrapin to finish with at least 18 points and 17 rebounds in a game since Jordan Williams totaled 21 points and 17 rebounds in Maryland's 89-77 victory over Houston in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
•  Maryland currently plays one of the youngest lineups in the country, ranking 349th of 353 teams in KemPom's experience metric. Maryland has started at least two freshmen in 10 games this season, while three freshmen average over 25 minutes a game and five average at least 10 minutes a game.
