AUSTIN, Texas -- The Maryland's women's golf team wrapped up at the Betsy Rawls Invitational Sunday, finishing in fifth place out of 15 teams competing at the UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
As a team, Maryland earned an overall score of 869 (293-292-284), which was just five strokes over total. The Terps tied with No. 23 Oklahoma State to lead the tournament field in pars. The Terrapins also finished third in the tournament in par 5 scoring at 13 strokes under par.
"This was another solid performance for our team to round our third top 5 finish in a row," head coach
Diana Cantu said. "Everyone on the team played very solid in at least two out of the three rounds. It was fun watching them play under par today. The first round of the tournament was tough, windy, and cold. Thankfully, the weather cooperated as the tournament progressed and we were able to continue to improve our games along with it."
Junior
Charlotte Lafourcade and freshman
Maria Vittoria Corbi both went just one over par to lead the Terrapins. They tied for 16th with scores of 217. Lafourcade picked up four birdies in the final round Sunday to earn her score of 217 (70-77-70). Corbi picked up four birdies in the second round Saturday to earn her score of 217 (75-69-73).
Senior
Xiaolin Tian made four birdies in the second round and finished with an overall score of 218 (76-70-72), which was two strokes over par. She tied for 22nd in the tournament and led the field with 41 holes at par.
Junior
Virunpat Olankitkunchai earned a score of 221 (74-76-71), which was five strokes over par. She picked up three birdies in the first and third round and tied for 30th in the event.
Junior
Laura Van Respaille earned a final score of 224 (74-79-71). She picked up seven birdies in Saturday's first round.
"Beating strong teams from Texas and the west coast gives us confidence for Landfall, our last tournament of the fall season," Cantu said. "Our team will have a couple of days off to rest and then we will be back on the course getting ready to finish this semester on a strong note."
Coming up, the Terps will compete in The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC. Oct. 25-27.
