IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa scored two goals in each half to defeat Maryland 4-0 Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes move to 13-3 (5-3) on the season with the win while Maryland drops to 7-6-2 (3-4).
Maryland's offense was unable to generate consistent pressure in the match, totaling just six shots with two on frame compared to 15 from Iowa.
Isabella Blackman broke through first for the hosts, scoring from just outside the box off a feed from Olivia Fiegel. Riley Whitaker would add to the Hawkeye lead 10 minutes later, putting Maryland in a 2-0 hole to end the first half.
Iowa kept the momentum rolling at the start of second half, as Natalie Winters netted her fifth of the season in the 50th minute. Maryland offense was able to get five shots off in the second half, but a late insurance goal put the game out of reach.
The Terrapins will have an opportunity to rebound at home this coming weekend hosting Indiana and Purdue at Ludwig Field. Maryland will first face Indiana at 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 17. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
