COLUMBUS, Ohio – A five-goal third quarter pushed the second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (14-2, 6-1 B1G) past No. 21 Ohio State, 6-3, Sunday afternoon at the Buckeyes' Varsity Field.
Â
The Terrapins trailed Ohio State, 2-0, at halftime, then the Terps made it a tale of two halves. They scored five goals in the third period, including a stretch of four in a 5:19 span, to win their sixth conference game of the year.
Â
"This was the second game we opened up evaluating and Ohio State capitalized. They set us on our heels in the first," head coach
Missy Meharg said. "This is the type of pressure you want a team like this to have to go through. We couldn't be more proud of their reaction action-wise after halftime."
Â
Freshman
Emma DeBerdine and sophomore
Bibi Donraadt both scored twice to lead the Terrapins past the Buckeyes (6-7, 1-4).
Â

Â
Just 3:38 after that, DeBerdine made it a one-goal game when senior
Madison Maguire sent a pass across the front of the goal to the far side and
Emma DeBerdine was there to tap it in with 7:46 left in the third period.
Â
With 5:36 left in the third quarter, Maguire took matters into her own hands to tie the game. She brought the ball into the circle and sent a reverse shot from the left side into the cage for the equalizer.
Â
Fifth-two seconds later,
Riley Donnelly sent a pass across the front of the goal from the right side and Donraadt was there to deflect it in for the go-ahead score. Maryland took a 4-3 lead with 4:54 left in the third period.
Â
A minute and 27 seconds later, the Terrapins made it a 5-3 lead with a goal off a penalty corner.
