COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapin Club and top-10 ranked Maryland men's and women's basketball teams officially tipped off the 2019-20 season with the Maryland Basketball donor dinner Tuesday night in College Park.
Men's and women's basketball coaches and student-athletes mingled with supporters and fans throughout the evening.
Head coaches Mark Turgeon and Brenda Frese both spoke highly of each other's programs and expressed excitement for the upcoming season.
"Our student-athletes have a really great life here at the University of Maryland and that's due in large part to the generous contributions of everyone in this room," said Turgeon. "Our guys have worked so hard this offseason and we can't wait to kick off the season."
"It's always great to get together and start a new season of Maryland basketball," said Frese. "We can't thank our fans enough for their support and generosity every season."
The highlight of the evening was Maryland's version of Family Feud, with Maryland Sports Radio Network basketball analyst Chris Knoche serving the role of host "Steve Harvey."
The women's team comprised of Kaila Charles, Stephanie Jones, Taylor Mikesell and Shakira Austin brought home the victory over the men's squad of Aaron Wiggins, Anthony Cowan Jr., Darryl Morsell and Jalen Smith.
The Terrapin Club is the official support organization for Maryland Athletics. The mission of the Terrapin Club is to generate private donations to fund the annual scholarship costs for Maryland's student-athletes.
Both the men's and women's teams are set to open their respective seasons on Tues., Nov. 5, as the men host Holy Cross at 7:30 pm and the women host Wagner at 11:00 am.
