Five Burning Questions - Eric Ayala

Throughout the fall, umterps.com will be featuring a different men's basketball player (or players) each week leading up the start of the 2019-20 campaign. Be sure to follow along with additional player-specific content on Maryland basketball's social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for more on each player. Today's featured player is Eric Ayala from Wilmington, Del. Here's five burning questions with Eric!

What did you learn about yourself from experience during your freshman season that you can apply to this year?

"Just to be myself. I think I've gained the trust of my teammates and my coaches and the relationships where I can just be myself and they love me for who I am. I think that's what I've learned coming into my sophomore season, and I've grown tremendously just being myself and not really worried about what people think about me, but just going out, executing my goals and my missions."

You retooled your body this off-season and slimmed down, what benefits from that change have you seen in your game?

"I feel a lot more athletic, a lot quicker, have a lot more energy, and it's a confidence thing. I know my body – I put the work into my body and I know it won't let me down. When we get out there I go and play and I expect it to perform at a certain level, and it hasn't let me down this summer and I want to continue that as I go on through my career."

What's something you're better than anyone on the team at?

"I don't really like comparing, but I mean I think I'm the best three-point shooter on the team. I don't care [laughs], I'm the best three point shooter on the team, me over Aaron (Wiggins), I like myself over Aaron. He's an incredible shooter though."

What's your favorite thing you did or place you visited this summer and why?

"Being able to go back home and see my family, to be able to go back where I'm from and just take it all in. But in reality I was just ready to get back here and back in the gym to work."

Your all-time dream starting five (including yourself)

"Myself at point guard. Michael Jordan at the two. Kobe at the three. Lebron at the four. And Kevin Durant playing the five."
