Maryland Downs Fayetteville State in Exhibition, 76-43

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Four players finished in double figures, led by a 16-point performance from senior Anthony Cowan Jr. as Maryland defeated Fayetteville State 76-43 in the team's preseason exhibition game Friday evening.

The Terrapins committed just six turnovers on the night, while smothering the Broncos on the defensive end to force nine steals.

Eric Ayala posted 13 points, while Jalen Smith (10) and Donta Scott (10) both posted double-digit outings for the Terps.

Smith opened the scoring with an emphatic alley-oop dunk on a beautiful dish from Darryl Morsel, the first of his 10 points on the evening. The 2-0 start was a lead Maryland would never relinquish as it led wire-to-wire.

The visitors would get as close as one in the first half after a Jalen Spicer jumper made it 16-15 with 12:14 to go. An 11-0 run would push the Terps to double digits before closing out the half with a 42-23 edge.

Terp fans got their first look at Maryland's freshmen class, which included several high-flying dunks from Scott and Makhi Mitchell. Makhi ended the night with a team-high eight boards, while the rookie class combined for 19 points on the night.

Maryland will open its regular season on Tuesday, November 5 when the Terps host Holy Cross at XFINITY Center. The game will tip off at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on BTN Plus.
