Madison Maguire and freshman
Emma DeBerdine of the Maryland field hockey team earned All-America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Tuesday.
Maguire was named to the Second Team and DeBerdine was named to the Third Team. This is the first All-America honor for both. Click here for the full list of All-Americans.Â
Maguire led the Terrapins with 12 goals and 10 assists this year. She was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and to the All-Big Ten First Team. Last month, Maguire earned her third straight All-Mid Atlantic Region honor.
Maguire was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, after she scored twice to lead the Terps past No. 6 Iowa and notched a hat trick vs. Michigan State.
Maguire and fellow senior Kelee Lepage were two of the top seniors in the country invited to play in the Division I Senior All Star Game in Winston-Salem, N.C. last month.
DeBerdine started in all 21 games for the Terrapins, scoring seven goals with five assists. She was named to the All-Big Ten First Team.
DeBerdine was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this season, after scoring twice and adding an assist in a comeback win at No. 21 Ohio State and scoring in a win over Michigan State.
Maryland won its fifth Big Ten regular season title in six years this fall and earned a record of 17-4. The Terrapins made their 25th straight NCAA Tournament appearance – the longest active streak in the country.
