COLLEGE PARK, Md.. -- Records continue to fall this indoor season, as the Terps capped off the Nebraska Husker Invite with a thrilling performance in the 4x400m relay. The team of
Kameron Jones,
Hazem Miawad,
Colin Rowe, and
Dashawn Morris ran 3:09.77 to claim the top spot in Terrapin history. The previous record was 3:12.45 set back in 2006.
In addition to this record-breaking event, several podium performances highlighted the two-day competition for the Terps. Kameron Jones found himself on the podium on multiple occasions earning the 2nd place finish in the open 400m (47.85) and 1st place in the 600m (1:17.61). Colin Rowe joined him on the podium in the 600m placing 3rd with a time of 1:20.49. Hazem Miawad placed 5th in 1:20.81.
In addition to running a 45.75 anchor leg in the 4x400m relay, Dashawn Morris posted a season best in the 200m with a time of 21.43. Cameron Vereen ran 6.96 in the 60m dash with a season best in the 200m (22.10).
Jewel Smith claimed the victory in the Long Jump competition against an elite field of jumpers. Smith leaped her way to victory with a mark of 19'11" (6.07m). In the Triple Jump, Leah Blackall jumped 12.12m (39'9.25") good for seventh place.
Freshman Jaida Smith finished 9th in the 60m dash running 7.62 and also set a new season best in the 200m dash running 25.07. Destiny Ward placed 9th in the 200m dash posting a time 24.75.
Cheyenne Jones had a strong double running 55.79 in the 400m dash and coming back in the 200m with a mark of 25.14. Thaila Cooper and Venida Fagan both ran indoor season bests in the 400m dash. Cooper posted a time of 57.15 and Fagan ran 57.20.
Christine Laurie ran a strong double posting a time of 5:02.30 in the mile and 2:16.24 in the 800m. Mackenzie Morgan ran her season best in the 800m, securing a time of 2:12.25 for fourth place.
Meanwhile, the Terps were also posting top performances in Lynchburg, Virginia at the Liberty Flames Invitational. Kathryn Gearhart notched a victory in the 3000m run with a performance of 10:09.94. Brittany Lang posted a lifetime best in the women's mile, running 4:59.24 for third place. Paige Novak also notched a new indoor season best in the mile running 5:13.79.
Gwendolyn Zeckowski placed 3rd in the pole vault with a season best mark of 3.65m (11'11.75").
In the throwing circle, Greg Thompson set a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 16.33m (53'7"). Alice Barnsdale placed 4th in the weight throw competition with a distance of 17.26m (56'7.50").
Ryan Scott set a new indoor season best of 1:56.89 in the men's 800m run.
Carlos Vanzego also hit a new season best in the triple jump competition. Vanzego leaped to a mark of 14.55m (47'9").
The squad will split again next weekend with some competing at Vanderbilt and another group heading to Navy.
