STORYLINES

• The Terps enter the Big Ten Tournament as a top-5 seed for the fourth time in five seasons as members of the conference. This is Maryland's second appearance in the second round, having lost to Wisconsin last season in its only other appearance.

• The Terrapins garnered a number of individual Big Ten awards Monday evening, led by sophomore Bruno Fernando earning First Team All-Big Ten and All-Defensive honors. Fernando was the only player in the conference to earn both honors. Junior Anthony Cowan Jr. was named Second Team All-Big Ten (now a 2x All-B1G honoree) and Jalen Smith was named to the freshman team.

Jalen Smith earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after posting 19 points (3/6 3-pt), 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the Terps' 69-60 win over Minnesota. It marked Smith's fourth double-double of the season, joining Joe Smith (1993-94), Jordan Williams (2009-10) and Diamond Stone (2015-16) as the only other freshmen since 1989-90 to achieve the feat.

• Sophomore Bruno Fernando was named one of five finalists to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award list (top center) Friday, becoming the first Terp to be named to the list since its inception in 2015. Fernando currently leads the Big Ten Conference (13th nationally) in field goal percentage (.624), ranks second in rebounds/g (10.5) and is third in blocks/g (2.0).

• Junior Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 15 points against Penn State to become just the sixth player in Maryland history to record 1,300 points and 400 assists in a career. He joined an impressive group that includes Greivis Vasquez, John Lucas, Johnny Rhodes, Walt Williams and Melo Trimble.

• According to NCAA.com, Maryland played the eighth toughest schedule in the country. It also boasted the fourth-youngest team in the country in experience according to KenPom.com.

• Sophomore Bruno Fernando has recorded a double-double in 11 of his last 13 games after posting 11 points and 11 rebounds against Minnesota. Fernando's 20 double-doubles on the season are tied for the third-most in program history and rank seventh nationally. His 15 double-doubles in conference action led the league.

• The Terps remain one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, ranking sixth in the country and second in the Big Ten Conference in rebound margin (+8.8).

• Terp Tendencies: Maryland has won all 22 games it has played when leading with 5:00 to play; Maryland is 15-0 when holding opponents under 40-percent shooting; Maryland is 14-1 when it makes more free throws than its opponent.
