#2 Terps Set for Saturday Contest at Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. --  The second-ranked Maryland women's lacrosse team will get back to conference play, traveling to New Jersey to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and former Maryland great Zoe Stukenberg on the call. 

HOW WE GOT HERE
• Five points apiece from senior Jen Giles and junior Kali Hartshorn, and 14 saves on a .667 percentage from senior Megan Taylor led the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (11-0) to a convincing 15-7 win over No. 14 Princeton on Wednesday night.
Led by six points apiece from senior Jen Giles (four goals, two assists) and junior Kali Hartshorn (three goals, three assists), the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (10-0, 2-0 B1G) trounced No. 7 James Madison 18-5 on Sunday afternoon.
• Led by six points (one goal, five assists) from Brindi Griffin and five points (four goals, one assist) from Grace Griffin, the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse used a dominant second half effort to take down No. 23 Penn State, 17-6 last Thursday night.

MEET THE TERPS
• The Terps are led by the midfield corps of senior Jen Giles, transfer Erica Evans and sophomore Grace Griffin. Giles leads the Terps with 32 goals, 14 assists, 46 points and is second with 18 groundballs. Griffin and Evans are tied for third on the team with 29  points apiece. Griffin has 22 goals, seven assists and is second on the team with eight caused turnovers. Evans, a transfer from Canisius, is third on the team with eight assists.
• Maryland is once again backlined by junior  Megan Taylor, who has had an incredible start to 2019, leading the country with a .594 save percentage at 107 saves to 73 goals allowed. Taylor was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Week in each of the past four weeks and the IWLCA National Player of the Week for the last two. 
• The attack is spearheaded by junior Kali Hartshorn and senior Caroline Steele. Hartshorn is second on the team in both points (38) and goals (30) and leads the team with 69 draw controls. Steele leads the team with three goals per game and had the game winner in overtime against No. 3 North Carolina. 
• Senior Julia Braig and junior Lizzie Colson guide the Maryland defense. Braig leads the Terps with nine caused turnovers while Colson leads Maryland with 20 groundballs and is second on Maryland with 52 draw controls and eight caused turnovers.

BIG TEN DOMINANCE
• Maryland, at 2-0 in Big Ten play this season, has never lost a regular season conference game and is now 24-0 against Big Ten teams in the regular season since joining the league in 2015.
• The Terps are 5-0 against Rutgers. 

REESE APPROACHING ALL-TIME WINS MARK
• Head Coach Cathy Reese is one win away from tying former Maryland boss Cindy Timchal for the most wins ever by a Maryland head coach.
• Reese currently stands at 259-21, while Timchal ended her Maryland career at 260-46. Reese played for Timchal from 1995-98 and served as her assistant coach from 1999-03. 

SISTER, SISTER
• Junior Kali Hartshorn's sister, Marin, is a freshman for Rutgers and the two New Jersey natives will face each other for the first time in their collegiate careers today. 
• On February 19, both Kali and Marin earned Big Ten Weekly Honors, with Kali winning Offensive Player of the Week and Marin winning Freshman of the Week.

AWARD TIME FOR MEGAN TAYLOR
• Senior Megan Taylor has won a handful of awards over the past weeks, garnering IWLCA National Player of the Week honors in each of the past two weeks and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in each of the past four weeks.
• Taylor now leads the NCAA with a .585 save percentage, having saved 93 shots to only allowing 66 goals. The senior also leads the Big Ten in goals against average and has the fourth best mark in the country at 7.67 goals. Taylor and Maryland have the third best scoring defense in the country, only allowing 7.10 goals per game.
• Over the four week time frame in which Taylor has won her six awards, the senior has 60 saves to only 37 goals allowed, a .619 percentage. 
• With her 600th career save in this past weekend's game against Ohio State, Taylor is also the current NCAA save leader, having the most in her career of any goalkeeper in the country.

HARTSHORN NAMED B1G OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Kali Hartshorn was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading Maryland offensively with 10 points (six goals, four assists) in the Terps two wins at No. 23 Penn State and No. 7 James Madison. Hartshorn also totaled 18 draw controls (nine per game), including a season-best 11 against Penn State, to lead Maryland to a 34-16 advantage in the draw circle in the two games. 
• At No. 23 Penn State, the junior scored three goals and notched an assist while tallying 11 draw controls and a career-best two caused turnovers to lead Maryland to a 17-6 win. At No. 7 James Madison, Hartshorn led Maryland with six points on three goals and a career-best three assists to lead Maryland to a dominating 18-5 victory over the defending National Champions.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
• Rutgers stands at 5-6 this season and 0-2 in Big Ten play with losses to Northwestern and Johns Hopkins.
• Maryland is 21-8 all-time against Rutgers and 5-0 since both teams joined the conference in 2015. 
• Last year, led by  attacker Brindi Griffin on offense, attacker Kali Hartshorn in the circle and goalie Megan Taylor in the cage, the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team 14-8. For the second week in a row, B. Griffin totaled a career-high five points, this time tallying a career-best three assists with two goals. Hartshorn led the team in goals, tying with junior attacker Caroline Steele with three scores, while winning nine draw controls.
