COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The men and women's 4x400m relay squads set back to back school records on the final day of competition at the Florida Relays.
Breaking a school record of over 40 years was the team comprised of Aaron Robinson, Kameron Jones, Hazem Miawad and Dashawn Morris. The quartet ran 3:06.61 to surpass the previous record set in 1979 by Darryl Bryant, Mark Fields, Renaldo Nehemiah, and Chris Person (3:07.20).
The Women's squad broke the school record by almost two seconds with an outstanding run by Xahria Santiago, Cheyenne Jones, Destiny Ward, and Venida Fagan. The ladies posted a time of 3:35.90 breaking the school record that was set in 2002 by Thema Napier, Devenn Hamilton, Tia Burley, and Toni Jefferson (3:37.86).
Greg Thompson threw 61.13m in the men's discus invite and finished in second place. This is the second time this season Thompson has surpassed the 61m mark in competition and he remains the number two ranked Discus thrower in the nation.
The Maryland women's 1600m sprint medley relay squad finished in sixth place and set the sixth best time in the Maryland record books with a 3:56.53. Jaida Smith (200m) handed off to Bria Mack (200m) who passed the baton to Thaila Cooper (400m) and finished off with Mackenzie Morgan (800m).
Alice Barnsdale finished ninth in the women's hammer throw invite with a throw of 59.35. Barnsdale continued a solid progression this outdoor season setting her up well for post season competition.
Carlos Vanzego jumped 14.97m (49'1.50") in the men's triple jump competition.
Navy Spring Invite
Maryland athletes took home five first-place finishes at the Navy Spring Invite in Annapolis, Maryland.
Nadia Hackett finished first in the women's 100m hurdles with a 13.98, and also won the 400m hurdles with a 1:00.54. Both marks are a personal best for Hackett.
Leah Blackall took home first place and won the triple jump, beating the field by over a meter and finishing with a 12.74m leap (41'9 ¾"). This is a personal best for Blackall and her first time over 41' in the event.
Patrick Hanley won the men's 5k, beating the field by over 30 seconds with a time of 14:55.12.
Nate Moore won the men's triple jump, clearing 14.84m and beating the next-best jump by over a meter.
Kathryn Gearhart set a new personal best and finished sixth in the 1500m run with a 4:46.02. Running along her was Yasmine Kass (4:53.42), Alexa Woltjen (4.56.03), Jasmine Tiamfook (4:57.13), and Kiernan Keller (5:08.57).
Aaron Barlev ran his first 3000m steeplechase of the season and finished second with a 9:29.71
Gwendolyn Zeckowski earned herself a podium finish in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.57m and finishing third in the event. Caroline Augelli also earned herself a spot on the podium in the women's 5k, running a 18:37.21 and finishing in third.
William Jones finished fourth in the men's 1500m run with a season-best time of 4:00.00. Ryan Scott ran a 1:56.95 and finished seventh in the 800m run. Andrew Alfano finished eighth in the 100m dash with a 11.10. Chris Spiess finished third in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.57m
In the women's 400m dash, Imani Gray took seventh with a 58.38. In the women's 800m dash, Paige Novak earned a podium finish and placed third with a 2:20.46.
In the women's hammer throw, Bayli Smith earned a new personal best and took 2nd place with a throw of 53.93m. Kameron Henderson threw 47.08 for seventh place and also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 12.86m. Lillian Hill finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 39.08m.
