ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Maryland junior volleyball player Erika Pritchard has been named a 2019 preseason All-Big Ten honoree, the conference announced Tuesday. Pritchard is Maryland's first preseason All-Big Ten selection since joining the conference in 2014 and its first conference preseason honoree since two Terps were selected in 2013 (Ashleigh Crutcher and Adreene Elliot).
Pritchard, a native of Middletown, Maryland, returns from a standout sophomore season in which she led the Big Ten in kills/set (4.32), set the second-highest single-season kill total in Maryland history (493), and was named First Team All-Big Ten, All-Region and a Volleyball Magazine Honorable Mention All-American.
"I'm excited Erika received this preseason honor," said Head Coach Adam Hughes. "It's great recognition from the coaches in this amazing conference of what she's capable of achieving. That being said, I know Erika is working hard to make sure she's recognized for what she brings to our team at the end of the year, not just the beginning."
Maryland opens the season Aug. 31 in Raleigh, N.C. as the volleyball team takes on Austin Peay and Kansas State at the Wolfpack Invitational. Maryland's home opener against Howard is slated for 6 p.m. on Monday, September 2. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
