Terrapins Earn Big Ten Preseason Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Three members of the Maryland women's golf team earned Big Ten Preseason honors, the league announced Wednesday. Senior Xiaolin Tian and juniors Virunpat Olankitkunchai and Laura Van Respaille were all honored.
 
In 2018-19, Tian competed in 10 events for the Terrapins. She earned two top 20 finishes in the spring. She finished tied for 28th and +5 in NCAA Regionals last May.
 
Olankitkunchai racked up eight top 20 finishes in 13 events, including seven finished in the top 10. She tied for fifth at the Big Ten Championships  and went two under par to earn All-Big Ten First Team honors. She led the Terrapins in NCAA Regionals, went three under par and tied for third. Olankitkunchai was the first Terrapin to advance to the NCAA Championships, where she finished tied for 43rd.
 
Van Respaille competed in 11 events for Maryland She earned three top 20 finishes on the season. Van Respaille finished second on the team and tied for 23rd at NCAA Regionals.
 
The Terrapins will open the fall slate at College of Charleston's Cougar Classic Sept. 8-10 for the second straight season. The event will take place at the Yeaman's Hall Golf Club.
 
This past season, the Terrapins earned their first bid to NCAA Regionals since 2012 and their first under Cantu.
 
Maryland finished 44th in the final GolfStat national team rankings, its highest ranking in program history.
