PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Temple (2-0) came up with a pair of pivotal red zone stops in the fourth quarter to hand No. 21 Maryland (2-1) its first loss of the season, 20-17, on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.

Owls wide receiver Kenny Yeboah put Temple ahead with a touchdown grab with 7:27 remaining in the game after the Terps had taken a 15-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

Maryland had its chances to regain the lead, twice starting drives inside the Temple 10-yard line with under five minutes remaining.

A DJ Turner career-long 55-yard punt return set the Terps up at the Temple 4-yard line. However, McFarland was stopped on fourth-and-goal with 3:27 left.

Maryland's defense responded, forcing a three-and-out and after Temple's Adam Barry shanked a punt from the end zone, The Terps had the ball back at the Owls 10-yard line.

Quarterback Josh Jackson connected with Turner on a fourth-down pass, but the receiver landed out of bounds. Temple took over and was able to run out the the clock.

McFarland finished the game with 123 yards on 25 carries, recording the fifth 100-yard rushing game of his career. Senior Antoine Brooks Jr. paced the defense with a career-high 13 solo tackles. 

The Terps will have a bye week before hosting No. 13/11 Penn State on Friday, September 27 at 8 p.m.
