PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore
Linda Cobano scored twice to lead the fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey team past No. 18 Rutgers, 2-1, Saturday in Piscataway.

Cobano scored her fifth and sixth goals on the year to lead the Terrapins (9-1, 2-0 B1G) past the Scarlet Knights (4-4, 0-1). She is currently Maryland's leading scorer.
"Rutgers is a wicked competitive and well-prepared team," head coach
Missy Meharg said. "We struggled sustaining control in possession and their midfield outran us. All said, at the end on 60 minutes, the Terps found the energyand control to hold the 2-1 lead. We have rest and recovery to properly prepare for a great Northwestern team on Thursday."

Cobano opened the scoring when she deflected in a pass from junior co-captain
Bodil Keus from outside the circle. She gave Maryland the lead just 8:04 into the match. The Terps led 1-0 at half.

Just 5:32 into the third period, Cobano struck again when she finished off a pass from freshman
Emma DeBerdine from the right side. She made it a two-goal lead for the Terps.

Rutgers got on the board in the 48
th minute when Tayla Parkes scored off the rebound on a penalty corner.

Maryland outshot Rutgers, 17-9, and took eight penalty corners to four for the Scarlet Knights.

Noelle Frost made three saves and Keus made a defensive save.

Next, the Terrapins will stay on the road to take on No. 7 Northwestern Thursday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET in Evanston, Ill. The Terps-Wildcats game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
