ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore
Linda Cobano scored four of No. 4 Maryland's six goals this week to be named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
Cobano led the Terrapins (9-1, 2-0 B1G) to two wins over top-20 wins. She scored twice in their 4-3 win in overtime over No. 10 Princeton and both goals in a 2-1 win at No. 18 Rutgers Saturday.
Â
Against No. 10 Princeton Tuesday, she tied the game in the 20th minute when she deflected in a shot off a penalty corner. Twenty-seven seconds into the third quarter, she gave the Terps a 2-1 lead when she collected her own rebound and cracked a shot from the top of the circle.
Â
Just 8:04 into the match at Rutgers, she deflected in a pass from
Bodil Keus from outside the circle for the opening goal. Five minutes into the third quarter, she took a pass from
Emma DeBerdine from the right side and scored to make it a two-goal lead for Maryland. Cobano is now the Terps' leading scorer with six goals this year.
Â
Cobano is the second Terrapin to earn a Big Ten weekly honor this season.
Noelle Frost was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.
Â
Next, the Terrapins will stay on the road to take on No. 7 Northwestern (10-2, 3-0) Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Evanston, Ill. The Terps-Wildcats game will be televised around the world on the Big Ten Network.
