Terps Shut Out George Mason Thursday, 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Alexis Hogarth scored her first career goal as Maryland (2-2-0) defeated George Mason University (0-3-1) 3-0 on Thursday night. Alyssa Poarch and Mikayla Dayes both had goals for the Terps home victory.

The Terps started the pressure early, when sophomore Alyssa Poarch scored an unassisted goal in the tenth minute of the game. They demanded the game early taking a total of 10 shots in the first half.

Opening the second half, Mikayla Dayes had a close scoring opportunity with a set up from Loren Sefick, but could not make it stick. The Terps kept pushing when Malikae Dayes took a free kick right to her twin Mikayla, whose shot was close, but wide left.

With just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Terps were looking for another goal, which came from Hogarth. A pass from Sydney Staier allowed Hogarth to take the ball wide left and take a long shot, landing perfectly in the top right corner of the goal.

Up by two, the Terps looked to add to their lead, and continued to take shots at the goalie. The third Maryland point came from Mikayla Dayes with five minutes to play, as she carried the ball up the left for an unassisted goal.

The Terrapin defense was dominant, allowing the Patriots just one shot and no corners in the game.

The Terps look for another win this Sunday as they take on George Washington University at 1 p.m.
